Media rights auctions for one of the world's most popular sports leagues IPL set off a record.
Several Indian Premier League matches could broadcast for $7 billion from 2023 to 2027 as part of the bidding war for broadcast rights. Major domestic and international media forces engaged in a face-off over the 14-year-old cricket league auction in June 2022.

Star India currently holds both linear and streaming rights on a $2.5 billion deal from 2018 to 2022. Disney Hotstar is used to stream games.

As part of its next round of deals, the league will auction off linear and streaming rights separately.
IPL broadcast rights have reached Rs 42,000 crore ($5.3 billion), with Sony, Zee, Star and Viacom 18 among those bidding.

Compared to the last five-year cycle, its value has already doubled with the bidding at $5.3 billion. In 2018, Star bought the IPL media rights for the 2018-2022 cycle for Rs 16,347 crore (approx $2.5 billion).

Sourav Ganguly, the former captain of the Indian cricket team and president of the BCCI, recently claimed that the Indian Premier League (IPL) generates more revenue than the English Premier League (EPL). The league is one of the most watched sports leagues in the world, and it is the top tournament in English soccer.

So what are your thoughts on this?
