After a brief respite from severe flooding, Bengaluru's technology hub was bracing for more heavy rain on Wednesday. Authorities were pumping out water from flooded areas and evacuating people.

There has been 162% more rainfall than average in India's Silicon Valley since June 1, and flooding after two days of incessant rain this week caused chaos and killed at least one person.

Early on Wednesday, floods had cleared in the worst hit areas, but heavy rains were expected later in the day to worsen the situation.

"We have issued a red alert for the region. Some pockets may get more than 20 mm of rainfall in an hour," an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official said.

The Bangalore Urban district on Tuesday received 43.1 mm of rain, 585% more than average, according to IMD data.

Dunzo, a delivery company for e-commerce, said it had halted deliveries in flood-affected areas and was using trucks to deliver essentials.

During the past few days, the chaos raised questions about poor urban planning in the fast-growing city, as well as climate change, which has also been blamed for devastating floods in Pakistan.

Almost 50 areas in Bengaluru have been encroached upon by high-end villas and apartments, according to the city administration.

On Tuesday, Garima Sehra, a resident displaced by flooding in her housing complex, said that "Infrastructure continues to be a problem and who do we hold accountable for this situation - the builders who did not account for all of these problems, or the city administration, given the poor lake connectivity and sewage system? We don't think we can go back for at least a week."

Acko General Insurance has received 200 claims, of which about 40 are for damaged vehicles, while Bajaj Alliance reports a doubled number of property claims following the flooding.

What are your thoughts on Bangalore’s infrastructure and planning?
